Another beautiful morning on Klui beach
The mornings were exceptional here waking up at 4 to the chanting in the rain forest and then being lulled back to sleep by the sound of the waves. Getting up and wrapping myself in a sarong to go and lay back on the cushions on the porch's divan and watch the day start on beautiful Klui beach. Some of the hotel staff would wander past picking up any leaves etc. that had landed on the lawn and picking any dead flowers or leaves off the plants always with a big smile and a Pagi! Then I would make the supreme effort each morning to get dressed and be served a wonderful breakfast by the smiling Yudi.....if life could get any better I'd like to know about it...no I wouldn't this was it for me. The only things missing were our boys and pets to share it with, then it would have been perfection.
oops one of my feet getting in the shot at least it proves I was there!
I'm thinking this day may have been the day we girls stopped off at the Art market which isn't very big by comparison to Kuta or Ubud but we had a fun time bargaining and buying bits and bobs and some lovely chimes (though one was confiscated for bugs back in Oz, just a tap on the counter will expose the critters ) The stall holders were very friendly here and we had a lot of laughs with them. At one point Shaz and I lost track of Geri and we called out her name and the stall holders ...who had obviously all seen the Jerry Springer show started calling out Jerrrrreee, Jerrrrrreee. Oh dear Jerry Springer in beautiful virtually untouched Lombok, talk about when television attacks. It was a bit of an eye opener when we first arrived on Lombok and the first dwelling we saw was a very, very basic hut but it had a satellite dish!
We stopped off for a beverage at 'The Office" a beachfront restaurant, where everything was way less than average..especially my Margherita it was undrinkable toxic waste! The waitress even brought over the bottle of tequila and triple sec to show me but something was definitely up here. I told her I really couldn't drink it , it was way too strong and she said their regulars liked it that way ppphhheewww!! The beach sellers were unforgiving here too! Yet another restaurant that I had read great things about...I wouldn't return.
Seems like I have a double somewhere because everywhere we went here everyone was greeting me like they knew me. I had apparently been there a month before. I had made a good impression too, they were all very happy to see me back again so soon.
We scoped out one of the forums recommended dinner venues "De Quake" that is pretty much next door to "The Office" walking in I missed a step and nearly face planted it! Luckily I employed the 'tuck and roll' manoeuvre that Karl and I had discussed, only the day before! All that my companions heard was a loud slapping sound and an OOOhhfffff to find me floundering on the ground in a flailing sit-up , graceful I am not. Thankfully the restaurant was empty and the very sweet waiter was very apologetic for my clumsiness (bless him) , he was eagerly trying to hoist me up off of the floor from behind by my armpits ...nice try Harvey. All I can say is "Thank Goodness' I didn't drink that toxic cocktail the outcome may have been a little worse than a couple of skinned knees.
The guys had caught a cab to Mataram in search of the motor bike part they had been trying to find all trip. It was for Geri's xmas present, a scooter and was a crucial missing component. They were having a bit of a communication break down in the bike shop when a very friendly expat happened to walk in and came to the rescue luckily and they got the part.
On the way home the bluebird got a flat and the driver could not stop apologising whilst he changed the tyre in a very speedy 5 minutes we kept telling him not to worry and to slow down but he moved so fast he was almost a blur.
fixed and ready to go again in record time
Where we pulled over maybe Mangsit don't quote me though.
I would have asked but our driver was very focused on the tyre.
When we arrived home we found the guys enjoying happy hour and the guest numbers at the hotel had swelled with a coach load of French people having just arrived. For the next few days we played spot the smile with very little success. Wow, how can a group of people be in such a beautiful place and look so upset about it...maybe they were laughing on the inside. I'm sure they probably weren't overly impressed with us either that is if they even noticed we were there . They may not of seen us but I got the impression they were smelling us by the way they tilted their heads back and sniffed whenever we were close by.
I'm glad I'm not married to an aggressive man, one night he actually got hip and shouldered by one of this group when they were both entering the restaurant very, very unfriendly!
We ended up at Cafe Alberto's that night. I had read great reviews about this place too but what a let down! It was a nice setting with a table on the sand and candles, our waiter was very glum which can alter the experience big time. The appetiser I ordered, bruschetta was horrible the bread was those little hard toast you get in a packet, it had an anchovy draped over it with a little slice of cheese and the pizza I ordered was pretty grosse. The others weren't overly impressed either. The highlight of the meal for me was climbing back into the Cafe's transport van that picked us up and delivered us home. It was all open air and it was wonderful standing up with the warm breeze in your face, specially when we drove past all the little roadside barbecues set up on the winding road home with the smell of sate's and roasting corn wafting around us.
We never did get to see the sun set behind Mt.Agung due to cloud cover but who
could complain.
The next couple of days we just stayed at the hotel chillaxing. A couple that are good friends of the others Bobbie and Jason were due to arrive on the 19th. but unfortunately he accidentally picked up and left with someone elses bag at the airport and there was a big mix up. Another good reason why I like to make our bags look distinctive with scarves and tags. They ended up staying in Pandang Bai that night and arrived at Jeeva klui on the 20th. our last day.
Over breakfast on our last day we got into conversation with our lovely waitress Ayu about her tattoos and before we knew it, it was organised for her friend to come to G+L's room for tattoo's which the guys were planning on getting when we were back in Bali. It was a marathon session for the tattooist (whose name I just can't remember) at around 8 or 9 hours (with meal breaks) He did this the entire time sitting cross legged on the floor! The poor guy has a very disfiguring hare lip which made us all feel for him. I think he was happy at the end of the marathon with his earnings, especially as Rob was so happy with his tattoos he wanted to give him well over what he had asked and insisted they keep it. Apparently the tattooist was annoyed with himself Ayu later told us, for not having any English and being unable to talk to us. We all ended up with wonderful reminders of our stay in Jeeva Klui.
Rob and I had our last dinner at the Jeeva on the floor of G+L's room with Ayu and her friend. The others had a nice meal at 'The Square'.
Off to Ubud in the morning.
Jeeva Klui you will not be missed too much as I see you in my dreams often.
