Saturday 1st.
Day 4
Moving on today, 12 noon check out so we still had time to get ourselves down to La Luc for another beautiful breakfast. Different menu today I think it changes for the weekend. Yet again everything was outstanding.
I just loved these Tangerine granitas, what a wonderful way to wake up your tastebuds!
If you got carried away with the food too long and neglected these drinks they would melt and fill up your saucer. No problem one of the staff had been keeping an eye on it for you and was ready with a quick saucer interchange. Had I mentioned how wonderful the service is ?
Some of the tasty morsels we dined on that pagi
Darien and Josh ordered the lamb omelet and were over the moon with it ordering another to share between them and 3 others to take away for breakfast the next morning.
We wandered back to the Villa taking the long way around to see if we could find Wah Wah Burger as it was one of the stand out memories from Darien's last trip in January 10' and we were going to have dinner there that night. Found it no problem although the vacant lot opposite it was now a very large hotel 'The Seminyak'!
The Seminyak weekend markets were on so Shell and I had a quick looksie there whilst the guys headed back to the Villa. We actually ended up overtaking them as they had discovered another 'Deus' store and were checking that out and then Shell and I spotted a wonderful art shop that I had heard and read about often but the name eludes me at the moment....is it Syan ? and the guys caught up to us again ;0) time was running short by this time so Josh, Shell and I hopped in a cab to take us back . I didn't really trust myself to make it back on time at this ..."Oh geez will you look at that" rate. I popped in to get my handbag (see previous episode) and we were packed and out of there in a blink of an eye. Mum's had organised transport to whizz us around the corner and Villa Alam was our next residence tucked down a lane off of Jl Drupadi.
Villa Alam
The Guys loved the spaciousness and big pool here. It had an outside grill area where they could hook up their music to the stereo and this "Air" song will probably always take me back to that first afternoon in Alam when I was wandering around taking these snaps and everyone else was just chilling in and around the pool.
Outside grill / stereo area, shrine to the left. Entrance door behind me.
Loving the Alam
Just chillin'
We had originally been booked into this villa for our entire trip but I had stayed in one of their other properties the next lane over in May and had come and checked out this one that we had already booked. I wasn't overly rapt with the location and shortened our stay to just 3 nights instead. I'm glad we did or we would not of had the pleasure of staying at 'Mum's'.
The entrance with staff quarters though the very friendly Gidday (sp?)
didn't spend much time there he and Wayan were only a phone call away.
To the left toward Jl Drupadi
The long lane that I wasn't originally overjoyed about, but it wasn't so bad after all.
To the right.
As is usually the way whilst in Bali I was getting itchy feet and was keen to hit the streets again as was the case with everyone. Luke was keen to check out the art shop again and have a proper look at their catalogs and I was looking for the elusive 'de' jewelry store. I needed a beach/boat bag too for tomorrows adventure.
We split up on Drupadi with the guys heading one way and us girls the other. Ahh that's better now we could have a proper look without any background hurrumphing ;0)
This was the occasion Shell and I hopped in a cab where I was surprised to see it had a fairly large stuffed toy suctioned to the windscreen on the passengers side, rendering it impossible to see what was ahead.
When I laughed and glanced at the driver to comment on this Whoa...I had heard of Coke bottle glasses before but I never had come across any before. Poor guy had been born with a very, very, very heavy right foot too!!
He was driving at break neck speed and thought I was joking when I insisted we weren't in any hurry. I may have been a bit flustered as he pulled up and the doors all locked, "What the hell man , there's no need for that. Don't worry we will pay even if it was a shocking ride" he was apologetic and I was slightly shaken.
Never can tell what is around the next Bali corner :0) This particular guy has probably collided with a few of the possibilities though!
Popped into Animale and got myself a couple of very nice...slightly unusual skirts that I just love. I wore one in particular on many occasions whilst in Bali it's a bit of an all rounder, good for dressy and casual. I love shopping with Shell she is very patient whilst I fluff around in the change rooms and is good for an honest opinion. We had a very friendly helpful shop assistant too.
A little euphoric from my skirt purchases it was definitely cocktail hour and we stopped into Pantarei for a bit of tapas and a couple of frozen delights which we drank whilst perched on the edge of Jl Raya Seminyak. What a great vantage point for some people and motorbike watching. We never did find 'de' that day but we both got lovely bags from a little store named Suka Bali Suka ( I think! ). Mine was just what I had been looking for.
Love all the little details on it. Hand stitched embroidery, crochet, beads etc. a bargain at $16 .
We had planned on returning to the villa to freshen up before dinner but we got a call from the guys and they were ready to go, so we hailed a Blue bird that happened to be heading in the opposite direction and he thought nothing of doing a 'U'ie right there just for little old us :0) Gotta love how they've got it all sorted ...if he had tried that manouver here in Adelaide somebody would have taken to him with a bat!
Wah Wah Burger was everything Darien (and we) had remembered and had been hoping for and some!
This is no ordinary hamburger joint. This is gourmet and risque. We all started with the 4 in 1 burger orgy which is your choice of miniature bite sized burgers.
We had the pleasure of the boss and creators company the last time we had visited and he had chatted to us a lot about the wagyu beef preparation and the conception of his recipes though he wouldn't part with too many ingredient insights (damn it).
We had only been for lunch last time but this time is was entrees, mains and cocktails all the way and they were all fabulous.
Stand outs were the works burger with prosciutto, and a quail egg (cute!) and the foie gras burger (which I refuse to try on principal) the boys are big fans though. I could rattle on about these burgers for ages throwing ingredients around like truffles, parmigano shavings, porcini mushrooms, red wine reductions but I'm sure you've got the idea already...exceptional.
Then it came to the main a couple of lamb racks, a couple of pork ribs and 1 beef ribs was ordered they were all great but the Luke's beef ribs were an absolute stand out (definitely a Homer Simpson aaaaaahhhhh pork chops moment for him) We all had a taste of those and they were wow!
An honorary mention needs to go to the espresso martini's too which are fantastic and without which you probably would have some pictures to go with this review but alas I was way to busy !!
The boys got themselves some souvenirs
We couldn't help but reflect on the contrast between lasts nights shockingly bad meal at ultra popular Ultimo's and this nights taste extravaganza at the 2 table occupied Wah Wah. It's a mystery to me!
The guys hopped in a cab without negotiation or a meter and got in a bit of bother at set down.
In contrast Shell and I had a great cabbie who was great fun and attempted to teach us a couple of phrases in Indonesian on the way home. Shell remembered it well but I think I may of had espresso martini interruptus :0)
On return to our villa there was no Made to light our way or wish us Selamat Malam. The fairies hadn't been to light the coils, turn down the bed, drop the mosquito nets or generally make the villa appear a wonderland :0(
I missed Mum's and even more so when I was scrummaging around in the kitchen at 2 looking for some insect spray 'cos I was getting attacked in the bedroom...I didn't find any and ended up with a mozzie patch on my pillow ( the best I could come up with). The air conditioner wasn't so great here either and I feel it may be a flaw with all of this group of Villa's as we struck the same problem back in May.
The air con is on the rear wall but doesn't seem to make it past the wall height ( pitched thatched roof ) wardrobes that form the bed head and the ceiling fan doesn't circulate much up in the rafters of the alum alum roof. I know,I know complain complain. I did miss Mum's that first night and if I'm honest I still do...I'll try not to pout about it.
We were off to Nusa Dua and Lembongan for some water sports in the pagi and it was Anniversary day! Yay I had been longing to show my boys the fish life in and around Bali and The Hari's Anniversary was the original purpose (excuse) for this particular trip. Bring It!
