Part 9 - You and I (we used each others shoulder)

October 2011

Saturday 8th.

Day 11.

Rob and I were looking forward to some 'us' time even if it was for just 4 nights. Being in Bali they were sure to be memorable.

What an absolutely beautiful song which we were fortunate enough to see performed live last night.
                                                    Another very memorable moment.

                                                    R.I.P. Steve Prestwich

Good Morning Candidasa, Bayshore and of course more importantly Bali, Bali, Baby. Rob was rapt to be back.

We had been pretty pooped when we got to Bayshore the previous night so we opted to eat dinner in the hotel. Rob opted for the Caesar salad (no big surprise there :0) they actually mention on the menu to request options which I thought was good  and he got some inclusions in his salad .
It was interesting listening to him trying to get his point across with these :0) He can be very particular when it comes to his poached eggs, (I should know right, after 30 years) ...he was a happy man when they came out perfecto mundo.

View from Villa #1 in which we stayed. On the other side of the pool
are a couple of suites that looked nice.

We strode out that morning to check out Candidasa and find a nice spot for brekky I had a list of likely spots ( thanks to TA of course ) and a sea view was a must for our first morning we thought.
We also wanted to scope out a local for a fishing trip/snorkel and we were keen to visit White Sandy beach.

Bayshore's driveway. To the left of the man with the broom
and around a little  bend you will find a local Apotek,
unfortunately I needed to visit it the next day.

At the end of the driveway.

One of the things I most liked about Candidasa right away was that you had the sea on one side and the mountains on the other. Best of both worlds.

Bayshore's pretty much on the edge of town and it didn't take us long before we spotted a sign to Rendezvous 600m which I'd read has a lovely view so that was our destination.

It did seem a bit further as I was having one of those head on a swivel pagi's ...'Ahhh I've read about that place' and 'Excellent, that's where that is ..we'll have to come back to that one'.

It is a quiet town with just the main drag through it and  not a huge amount of stores but we found everything we needed during our short stay and  it has a nice feel about it.
There's a couple of pretty big (we're not talking Bintang supermarket size) convenience stores that in true Bali style have everything ....even a kitchen sink if you look hard enough I'm sure.

We were pretty hot by the time we reached the restaurant and looking for some sustenance.

They were right about the view from Rendezvous

We weren't aware of the staircase on the other side of this wall and had a laugh when taking in the view a pair of smiling eyes appeared on the other side of the wall followed closely by an arm holding strands of pearls aloft  or should I say purrrrrrals, :0)

This restaurant is part of the Alam Asmara Hotel and there's a small swimming pool to the far left of the above picture which seemed popular when we revisited for lunch one day.
The smiling waitress we had here was as cute as a button and let out a little squeal  of delight (and I nearly wore my cup of tea) when she saw my iphone cover was her favorite colour purple.
This restaurant was just what we needed that morning with a lovely sea breeze, good service and very nice
food. All the smiles and jewelry shopping just topped it off  (pearls aren't my thing though).

Talk about over indulgence at breakfast and the food hadn't arrived yet!

                                                                                           more of the view

We snorkeled and fished around the largest island in this picture the next day and were told it's called Beer (sp?) and the one next to it was Tobacco (I'm not sure if he was joking or not, he was quite a serious young guy our Captain). There's a shrine on Beer and many ceremonies are held on it.

On our way back we checked out some shops, looked around and met some friendly people.

                                                                           Roosters.

What a woman. I'd like to know more about this statue.

                                                                             Nadi's store

Lots of interesting and lovely items here at Nadi's. I really wanted this statue and had spotted it whilst it was on the ground grouped with others and I was on the other side of the street (seems I can now spot a worthwhile purchase from 30 paces :0 ). I wasn't sure if I was going to get what I had bought already home yet.
My 2 Big silver dragons still hadn't seen the inside of a suitcase, let alone adding this 18inch - 5kg beauty into the mix. I had to cram and weigh before we bought this one.
It turned out we could of managed it but went back 3 times and she was closed each time..ahhh well.

                                                                   Heading back to Bayshore

On the way back we stopped into Lotus Seaview Restaurant we got lured in by the tanks full of big blue yabbies which look identical to the ones we pull out of the Murray but they are being farmed here in Candidasa and they call them lobster.
We liked the look of the restaurant and made a booking for dinner then headed back to Villa#1 for some chillin'.
We did have our fair share of issues with this room right from the start and as each day dawned more problems presented themselves.
It really was a hot box with all the glass windows, though they made for a wonderful view most of the curtains were drawn for privacy anyway as the pool was right outside the door.
We spent quite a bit of time in the pool because the air conditioner struggled with keeping the room cool even at night. So that's where you would of found us that afternoon.

Whilst splashing about with some duty free drinks we managed to book our next days outing with Made who came wandering along the beach looking for customers (gotta love it ). So we struck up a deal where he was going to pick us up the next morning for a day of fishing, snorkeling and we'd hang out on White Sandy beach for a while for swimming and lunch. Sounds like everything we had come to Candidasa for in the first place was a happen' thang.
Tried to watch a DVD that afternoon but the audio wasn't working so we relaxed around the pool some more. The dinner and drinks at Lotus were very nice and we popped into the Bayshore's restaurant for a night cap.
When we toddled off to bed, I embarrassingly discovered the close proximity of our outside toilet to the next door villas front porch (2m if that). I truly did try not to listen to the bit of a domestic they were having whilst having their night cap on the porch and they seemed oblivious to all the noises coming from my side of the wall (throat clearing and coughing , that is :0}

In bed we adjusted the aircon directly above our heads to blow straight down on us to be cool enough for sleep. That turned out to be a mistake though as I woke up not long after pretty cold and there wasn't a comforter/doona so it was either hot or cold take your pick we alternated between the two all night.

It was nice nodding off to the sound of the waves again and it was fun spotting all the critters on our ups and downs during the night. Hermit crabs and plenty of cute geckos.
I do love the outdoor Balinese bathrooms and all the flowering vines and bamboo in this one were beautiful. There was quite a bit of rustling going on in the bamboo whilst I was in the bathroom at one stage during the night and I just caught a glimpse of the last bit of what I'm supposing was a pretty big lizard disappearing over the wall. Who needs DVD's anyway right!
